Opportunities to Volunteer

SLA members can participate in the Association by volunteering for a committee. Following are short descriptions of committee duties along with committee chairs. Contact Board Chair Karen Sutherland for more details or questions on committee activities.

2013 - 2014 SLA Committees

Education: Ron Elsner - Chair
The Education Committee develops ideas for informing SLA members about issues that affect the lake and then implements an educational plan for the year.

Fisheries: Paul Gustafson - Chair
The Fisheries Committee works with the DNR Fisheries to propose fishing limits, provide information to SLA members on net surveys and promote habitat.

Fundraising: Jon Juntunen - Chair
The fundraising committee is in charge of the fund drives and special fundraising projects such as the Golf Tournament and the 5K Run/Walk.

Lake Vegetation: Dale Gustafson - Chair
Cutting curlyleaf, treating Eurasian milfoil and planting bulrushes are some of the activities of this group. Volunteers are always needed.

Membership: Cathy Beckman - Chair
The membership committee handles membership renewals, manages the membership database and is in charge of publishing the directory.

Picnic: Deb Beltrand - Chair
The Picnic Committee plans the food, games, equipment and door prizes for the annual SLA picnic. Many volunteers are needed to make this event the success that it is.

Water Quality: Dale Gustafson - Chair
Controlling shoreline erosion and runoff is a major responsibility of this committee. If you are interested in lakeshore restoration projects, this is the committee for you.

  • Lakescapers: Karen Sutherland - Chair
Lakescapers is a subcommittee of the Water Quality Committee. This committee is responsible for encouraging folks around the lake to plant with the health of the lake in mind. They maintain the over 500 native plants which were planted at the south public landing in summer 2010. A major responsibility of this committee is to organize the spring plant exchange.

Water/Snow Patrol: Chair TBA
This committee mans the patrols on the lake both summer and winter. Contact Board Chair Karen Sutherland if you want to be a part of this very important and rewarding team of lake residents.

Area Communicators: Doc Williams Coordinator
Area communicators keep the Board informed of new lake residents. They also help in getting treatment permission slips signed by residents in their area. Communicators are listed in the front of the SLA directory. If you are interested in being a communicator, contact Doc.
